Computer Drivers Why you need them, where to get them

Computer drivers are software programs that are made up of a specific set of instructions that communicate with the operating system on how to run and use a piece of hardware that is installed in the computer system.

For each piece of hardware that is installed on your system, you will require a specific drive to instruct it. Examples of hardware that require drivers include audio/sound cards, video cards for monitors, printers and modems.

Should you load the hardware and fail to load the right driver, the equipment will not know how to talk to the computer in order to function. By installing the driver software, the equipment will instantly know where it needs to connect and what components of the computer it needs to talk to.

It Worked Before, Why Not Now?

Drivers are pieces of software and just like any other piece of software are susceptible to corruption, hence they may at times, fail to perform. When this occurs you might need to head to the manufacturer’s website and update your drivers.

Sometimes you may also need to update your drivers when the manufacturer brings out a new version. Manufacturers are constantly updating drivers but they cannot send out drivers to everyone who has ever purchased a product. As a result it is important that you regularly check the sites of products you own to see if updated drivers have been released
